The wrong-way driver warning is a connectivity based safety function that predictively warns the wrong-way driver. Based on the confidence level of the wrong-way driver recognition, a cascaded warning concept (optic, acoustic or haptic) is realizied. Other oncoming road users, endangered by the wrong-way driver, will be automatically warned via car-to-car communication. In this case, a selective warning will be displayed with the information where the wrong-way driver is located. The system is based on algorithms using road sign recognition and electronic horizon or GPS and cloud. The system requires a camera, GPS, UMTS, a wireless interface to car HMI, server and services.
